Forms of macular degeneration
Dry AMD — the most common, progresses slowly: deposits (drusen) build up in the retina and macular cells are gradually lost.
Wet (neovascular) AMD — fragile new blood vessels grow under the retina and leak fluid; vision can get worse within weeks.
Symptoms
A blurred spot in the centre of vision, wavy straight lines, difficulty reading and recognising faces.
Diagnosis
Eye fundus examination, the Amsler grid test, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and when needed fluorescein angiography or OCT angiography.
Treatment abroad
Anti-VEGF injections into the eye — the main treatment for wet AMD, given as a course.
Photodynamic and laser therapy — in selected cases.
Monitoring and vitamin supplements — for dry AMD; low-vision aids.
The cost depends on the form of the disease and the number of injections; the plan and price are confirmed after the examination. All clinics are in the ophthalmology section.
Send a request with your OCT results — Clinics Direct coordinators will get an ophthalmologist's opinion and a cost estimate free of charge.
